Bose takes on the AirPods Pro 2 with its QuietComfort II

While the American Apple has just lifted the veil on its new AirPods Pro 2, now Bose is taking the opportunity to in turn formalize a new generation of wireless headphones. These are the QuietComfort Earbuds II, earphones that have a new design, and which also evolve their noise reduction technology, with the integration of the intelligent CustomTone tool.

QuietComfort II, and the most effective noise reduction in the world (according to Bose)

From a strictly aesthetic point of view, the new Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II are about a third smaller than before, with each earphone weighing a featherweight 6 grams on the scale. Obviously, the earphones come with a charging box, which is able to recharge the earphones to 100% in a short hour (the case requiring around 3 hours of charging via USB-C to be fully reinflated). On the autonomy side, the headphones promise up to six hours of listening, the case being able to recharge them up to three times.

The new Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II feature capacitive touch controls on the left and right ear cups, which provide access to common controls such as play and pause content, volume control, track skip, take and end of calls. Via the Bose Music app, various additional shortcuts can be configured.

But the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II also promise (and above all) a major step forward in terms of noise reduction. The latter is more efficient than ever, and is supported here by CustomTune technology. This is automatically implemented each time the headphones are removed from their case and placed in the ears.

A proprietary tone is then played and a microphone inside the earpiece measures the acoustic response of the user’s ear canal. This information is then used to fine-tune the audio and noise reduction performance specifically for the latter. In this way, CustomTune fully optimizes the sound frequency profile based on the unique properties of each ear.

Ever since we introduced noise canceling to the market, we’ve been committed to pushing the boundaries of engineering, technology and design – and the QuietComfort Earbuds II are the latest result of that commitment.“, proudly explains Raza Haider, product manager at Bose. The new Earbuds II use four microphones in each earbud – one inside and three outside – to detect, measure and send unwanted noise to a new electronic chip loaded with a proprietary algorithm.

As on other headphones, we find here an Aware mode, which offers increased transparency, allowing the environment to pass through the headphones with a sound as natural and realistic as possible. And when strong disturbances occur nearby, ActiveSense responds with the most appropriate level of noise reduction, tailored specifically to the user’s ear, to reduce noise as it occurs, and only for as long as it lasts.

Price and availability

The new Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II are IPX4 certified for sweat and water resistance, and will be available at the end of September, priced at €299.95. Pre-orders are already open on the official Bose website, with the possibility of opting for Soapstone or Triple Black models.
